The Road to Pro
Well around this time 3 years ago I was starting on a journey that seems so far from where I am today. I was setting off to Barrow Island, a tiny island of the North West coast of Australia, to work a 21 days on 7 days off roster of 12 hr days. What a perfect place to get introduced to the sport that would soon become my passion, my life, my calling!
My triathlon career started off well winning my first race and landing straight in amongst the top age group woman in triathlon WA, finally all those years of swimming up and down that black line paying off. After a year and a half of working and training on Barrow Island the lack of sleep, waking at 3am most mornings to train, and living in fight of flight mode were taking away my love and passion for life. So I packed my bags and the remainders of my sanity and headed back to Perth full time.

After moving back to Perth my racing took another big step up as I begun racing in the open/elite category. The extra time not working 12 hr days and training with my squad was helping me reach my potential. Then this is where I sat for a year, training hard and seeing small gains but not really being able to break through to that top level in WA.
The end of last year was tough as a few personal tragedies occurred with people very close to me. I soon realised life is too short to let your dreams and goals be compromised by what society believes the sensible path in life is. So I took redundancy and started training and racing the only way my heart knows which is all or nothing!! A month later I was winning elite races in WA and then qualified for my Professional licence in Geelong by being first non-professional athlete and being within 6% of the winning professional female time.

So now im back to small fish BIG pond and I love it! I know that racing with the top girls in the world is going to make me dig deeper, train tougher and strive harder to be the best I can be. I have my first professional race in 2 weeks in Melbourne and I plan on going out there and giving it a bloody good crack!!
Thank you to all that have been there with me from the start, Luke Morris and my family, Mikey Gee, Steve Gleeson, Greg Murphy (Joondalup Sports Massage), 32Gi Nutrition, Rob Sutton, my awesome squad and all my friends and supporters. Also big thanks to recent sponsors Blue Force Security and Dare2Tri who have joined team Kerry, let the fun and games begin :D!!
